B.C. Police Sign Off
By P.W. Luce, Vancouver, B.C.
‘Khaki and Green has turned to Scarlet and Gold. A romantic era in British Columbia has ended. The Provincial Police Force has been absorbed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Of the 500 officers and men who patrolled the 360,000 square miles of the western province, 520 are now serving in the federal force. The remaining thirty were not acceptable, or preferred retirement to change. There had never been any evident friction between the two groups, but there had always been a certain rivalry that was individual, if not official. The constables who quit felt the could not be comfortable in an organization controlled by Ottawa.’
