Charolais youth delegates take a trip to Hungary

Nine young adults from Hungary, Estonia, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland and the United States participated in the Charolais Charbray International Youth Program. Canada hosted it for the second time in conjunction with the CCYA Conference and Show. The youth also visited six breeders in Saskatchewan and the Buffalo Plains Cattle Co. Feedlot. The eight-day tour was hosted by Helge and Candace By.


The Salers Association of Canada held its annual general meeting in Richmond, Que., on June 22. The board of directors for 2019-20 include: Peter Watkins (president); Werner Grundke (vice-president); Travis Depalme (treasurer); and directors Richard Grudeski, Jacob Morin and Mike Topp. Gar Williams is managing the magazine. The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is pleased to extend congratulations to the four Masterfeeds National Junior Beef Heifer Show high-placing showman- ship competitors that will be representing Team Canada at the National Young Stars Competition in the United Kingdom in August 2019. Applicants submitted a short essay outlining why the Masterfeeds National Junior Beef Heifer Show is important to them and what they have gained by competing in the show, as well as why they would like to be a part of Team Canada at the National Young Stars Competition.

The Royal extends congratulations to:

  • Champion Senior Showperson – Kaitlin Cavanagh, Carleton 4-H Association Champion.
  • Intermediate Showperson – Reegan Sawyer, Middlesex 4-H Association Reserve.
  • Champion Intermediate Showperson – Brent Clysdale, Peterborough 4-H Association.
  • Honourable Mention Intermediate Showperson – Abby Anderson, Peterborough 4-H Association.While in the United Kingdom, Team Canada will have the opportunity to experience British farming firsthand, travel across the U.K. to see tourist attractions, meet other youth involved in the agriculture industry, and participate in a youth beef show, learning the showing and fitting practices that are customary in the U.K.
