Global Markets: Russia banned from international sport

WINNIPEG, Dec. 9 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– The World Anti-Doping Agency voted unanimously to ban Russia from international sporting competitions for four years – which would keep the country out of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

– A volcanic eruption on White Island, off the northern coast of New Zealand, killed at least five people with at least 20 more missing and presumed dead. Roughly 50 people were on the island at the time of the eruption and 23 were rescued. The military is deploying drones to assess the situation, and New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has arrived in a nearby town to meet with local leaders.

– Impeachment proceedings against U.S. President Donald Trump saw accusations that Trump violated his oath of office by putting himself before the country.
