Global markets: Theresa May speaks on Brexit

WINNIPEG, January 17 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.

– British Prime Minister Theresa May gave a framework for the country’s separation from the European Union on Tuesday.

May laid out 12 objectives to the press, including the UK controlling its own laws, immigration controls, protection of workers’ rights, and trade deals, among others.

– Canada produced 20.0 million cubic metres (126.0 million barrels) of crude oil and equivalent products in October, up 7.5 per cent compared with the same month in 2015, Statistics Canada said in a report on Tuesday.

– Investment in non-residential building construction totalled C$12.3 billion in the fourth quarter, down 0.7 per cent from the previous quarter. This was the seventh decrease in eight quarters. Nationally, the decline reflected lower spending on commercial and industrial building construction, Statistics Canada said.
