Global markets: Trump to be inaugurated

WINNIPEG, January 20 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.

– The US dollar advanced against a bundle of currencies ahead of the inauguration of US president-elect Donald Trump.

– In Canada, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.5 per cent on a year-over-year basis in December, following a 1.2 per cent gain in November, Statistics Canada said in a report on Friday.

StatsCan also released data for 2016, reporting that the annual average increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 1.4 per cent. This increase followed gains of 1.1 per cent in 2015 and two per cent in 2014.
