Cattle Drives Revived
By Fred Kennedy, Calgary, Alta.

‘Echoes of the old cattle drive days. when the trails from Texas to the Canadian border were black with herds of cattle on their way to the newly opened range districts of the North West Territories, were heard again recently when thousands of head of cattle and horses were trailed from Alberta ranches to their ultimate destinations without the loss of a single head.

With the U.S. market again open to them after being closed for a number of years, and with United States buyers clamoring for quality feeder steers and stock cows, Alberta ranchers found themselves facing an unprecedented shortage of stock cars.’
