A new service to producers, the Western Canadian Post-Registration Variety Trials Online, was officially launched by the Western Grains Research Foundation (WGRF) in April.
This interactive site puts agronomic and performance data from the annual variety trials across the four western provinces right at your fingertips. It’s the data you would find in each of the provincial seed guides compiled into one chart in one standard format that
gives you a good grasp on how the varieties perform overall.
Canadian western red spring wheat is the pilot crop that is now up and running. If producers like what they see, other crops will be added, says Lanette Kuchenski, WGRF executive director.
Barley is being considered, Kuchenski adds. If it’s the next to proceed, the winter of 2010 would be the likely time for the launch. The website, www.pvttrials.com,is dial-up compatible and easy to use.
