As you know Manitoba has a new agriculture minister, Stan Struthers, the same minister who put a moratorium on a large sector of the hog industry. How can he have any rapport or respect with our livestock sector? On page 47 of the February issue of CANADIAN CATTLEMEN, your article Pasture Days Insurance Launched in Manitoba is quite misleading, I believe.
The minister talks about the pilot Pasture Days program and then at the end says producers have received $112 million for the Excess Moisture Insurance (EMI) program. This implies producers are cattle producers but the EMI is for annual seeded crops! My guess is these are largely grain producers. Muddy waters.
