Canadian Financial Close: Canadian dollar lower at midweek

WINNIPEG, Jan. 29 (MarketsFarm) – The Canadian dollar was slightly lower on Wednesday.

The dollar finished the day at US$0.7578 or US$1=C$1.3196, compared to Tuesday when it closed at US$0.7588 or US$1=C$1.3179.

Financial markets activity was mixed following an announcement that the United States Federal Reserve left benchmark interest rates unchanged.

The TSX Composite Index closed higher by 10.87 points at 17,511.75. The S&P 500 lost 2.84 to close at 3,273.40. The Dow Jones was up by 11.60 to finish at 28,734.45. The NASDAQ was up 5.48 to finish at 9,275.16.

Benchmark oil prices were slightly lower on Wednesday. Brent crude oil was down by 34 cents, closing at US$59.69 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil was 40 cents lower to close at US$53.16 per barrel.
