Prince Edward Island’s treasurer will serve also as its acting agriculture minister while Agriculture Minister George Webster recovers from a mild heart attack, according to media reports.

Wes Sheridan, the MLA for Kensington-Malpeque, is expected to handle the ag portfolio for about a month while Webster recovers at home from a heart attack he suffered Sunday, CBC quoted Premier Robert Ghiz as saying Tuesday.

Webster, who’s now recovering in hospital at Summerside, will return “hopefully in close to a month,” Ghiz said.

Sheridan, an MLA since May 2007, was named to the treasurer’s post in June that year.

Before entering politics, Sheridan was assistant manager at Malpeque Bay Credit Union, and manager of commercial lending. He has a degree in economics from Dartmouth College.
