Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie edges above 74 cents

Greenback slips against other currencies

WINNIPEG, June 23 (MarketsFarm) – The Canadian dollar was move above 74 U.S. cents on Monday morning as the United States dollar lost ground to other global currencies.

As of 8:42 CDT, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7404 or C$1.3506, compared to Monday’s close of US$0.7383 or C$1.3545.

Benchmark crude oil prices were slightly higher Monday morning, making a recovery from overnight losses following comments made by the Trump administration’s trade advisor that the Phase One trade deal was “over.” U.S. President Donald Trump countered Peter Navarro by tweeting the deal was still “fully intact.”

Brent crude oil gained 41 cents at US$43.49 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose 38 cents at US$41.11 per barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) was up 52 cents at US$32.18 per barrel.

At the opening, the TSX/S&P Composite Index increased by 153.52 points at 15,670.42.

Gold was up US$10.09 at US$1,764.52 per ounce.
