Global Markets: Chile votes to replace Pinochet-era constitution

WINNIPEG, Oct. 26 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Chileans have voted overwhelmingly in favour of replacing the country’s constitution, which was originally imposed by Augusto Pinochet’s military dictatorship 40 years ago. Exit polls showed over 78 per cent of voters were in favour of rewriting the constitution. The new constitution must now be drafted by a popularly elected body with a goal of submitting it to voters in 2022.

– Saskatchewan voters go to the polls Monday to elect a new provincial government. The ruling Saskatchewan Party held 46 seats in the 61-seat legislature ahead of the vote, with the New Democratic Party forming the opposition.
