WINNIPEG, Jan. 27 (MarketsFarm) – The Canadian dollar was weaker Wednesday morning, as sharp losses in the equity markets had investors backing away from riskier assets.
At 9:03 CST Wednesday morning the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7811 or US$1=C$1.2802 which compares with Tuesday’s North American close of US$0.7873 or US$1=C$1.2702.
Declines in crude oil contributed to the weaker tone in the energy-linked currency. West Texas Intermediate was down by 0.9 per cent in early activity, at US$52.16 per barrel.
The TSX was down by 333.72 points at 9:03 CST to trade at 17,445.69 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 469.03 points, at 30,468.01 points.
