WINNIPEG– The Canadian dollar held mostly steady on Wednesday morning.
As of 8:38 a.m. CDT, the loonie was at US$0.8042 or US$1=C$1.2435, compared to US$0.8035 or US$1=C$1.2446 when markets closed on Tuesday. Later today, the minutes for the United States Federal Reserve’s June meeting will be released, which will give an idea on the central bank’s upcoming fiscal policy.
Crude oil prices were higher on Wednesday as they continue to be volatile since OPEC+ nations failed to reach an agreement on future output on Monday. Brent crude increased US$0.30 per barrel to US$74.83. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) gained US$0.31 to US$73.68/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) advanced US$0.27 to US$60.35/barrel.
The TSX/S&P Composite Index rose 18.57 points to 20,273.94.
Gold gained US$6.96 per ounce to US$1,804.04.
