Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie, oil decline

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar continues to oscillate on each side of the United States 80 cent mark on Thursday.

As of 8:51 a.m. CDT, the loonie was at US$0.7965 or US$1=C$1.2555, compared to US$0.8002 or US$1=C$1.2497 when markets closed on Wednesday.

Crude oil was lower on Thursday due to increasing gasoline stocks in the U.S. Brent crude lost US$0.86 per barrel to US$73.90. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) dropped US$0.84 to US$72.29/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) fell US$1.04 to US$58.54/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index slipped back 5.27 points at 20,141.97.

Gold declined US$1.46 per ounce to US$1,826.07.
