Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie, TSX jump early

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar had a sharp morning rise on Tuesday.

As of 8:36 a.m. CDT, the loonie was at US$0.8060 or US$1=C$1.2407, compared to Monday’s closing value of US$0.8006 or US$1=C$1.2490. The United States Dollar Index lost 0.04 of a point at 98.96.

Benchmark crude oil prices continued to rise, but not as much as in recent days. Brent crude oil advanced US$0.68 per barrel to US$108.21. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) gained US$0.79 to US$104.07/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) increased US$0.43 to US$91.95/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index climbed 103.43 points to 22,189.03.

Gold increased US$5.20 per ounce to US$1,939.20.
