– Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will have a busy day on Thursday at the Summit of The Americas in Los Angeles. He will meet with United States President Joe Biden, California governor Gavin Newsom, Argentina President Alberto Fernandez and Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company. Trudeau will also take part in a leader-level plenary during the day. On Wednesday, Trudeau spoke with Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley and both took part in a discussion about sustainable development goals with leaders from Belize, Ecuador, Jamaica and Chile.

– Ukrainian and Russian forces battled in the streets of the city of Severodonetsk on Thursday, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said could determine the fate of the Donbas region in the eastern part of Ukraine. Russia is also attacking the neighbouring city of Lysychansk with constant shelling and its defense ministry claimed to have used air-launched missiles against a Ukrainian military base in Zhytomyr, west of Kyiv, alleging mercenaries were trained there.
– At an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) meeting in Vienna on Wednesday, countries voted to censure Iran after learning the country plans to add two new sets of centrifuges in efforts to rapidly enrich more uranium. Before the vote, Iran shut off two devices which monitored enrichment at the Natanz facility. In 2018, President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from an accord which lifted economic sanctions against Iran in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program.
– Just days after the Progressive Conservative government was re-elected, the province of Ontario announced on Wednesday it will lift most mask mandates on Saturday including in hospitals and public transit. Masks will continue to be mandatory in retirement homes and long-term care facilities. However, Toronto’s University Health Network of hospitals will still mandate masks and the Toronto Transit Commission will continue to strongly recommend wearing them.
