WINNIPEG, Nov. 16 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

  • There was no evidence of a deliberate attack by Russia after a missile strayed across the Ukraine border into NATO-member Poland, killing two people on Tuesday, according to NATO officials. The missile that landed on the Polish grain facility is now thought to have most likely been a Ukrainian defense missile.

  • Former United States President Donald Trump officially launched his bid to retake the presidency in 2024. Trump made the announcement at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida a week after midterm elections that saw disappointing results for many Trump-backed candidates.

  • Canada’s consumer price index was up by 6.9 per cent on an annual basis in October, according to a report from Statistics Canada. The inflation was steady with September, with increases in gas countered by slower growth in the food sector.
