WINNIPEG, Nov. 23 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

  • Hundreds of workers at the Foxconn iPhone plant in Zhengzhou, China, were protesting Wednesday over a delay in bonus payments and frustration over harsh COVID-19 restrictions, with reports of smashed windows and surveillance cameras. The Foxconn plant is the world’s largest iPhone factory.

  • A Walmart employee opened fire at a store in Virginia, killing six people before also killing himself. The shooting, just ahead of the United States Thanksgiving holiday, marks the 40th mass killing (defined as a killing that left at least four people dead, not including the killer) in the country so far in 2022 – the second-highest total on record. There was no known motivation for the latest shooting.

  • Russian missile strikes in Ukraine continued Wednesday, with large power outages reported across the country as well as in neighbouring Moldova.
