- The four entities involved in the deal for Rogers Communications to acquire Shaw Communications agreed on Monday to push back their deadline from tomorrow to Feb. 17. Last week, the Federal Court of Appeal ruled against the Competition Bureau in its request to overturn the deal’s approval by the Competition Tribunal. Under the terms of the deal, Roger takes over Shaw and Quebecor’s Videotron will buy Shaw’s Freedom Mobile. The companies plus the Shaw Family Living Trust await approval from the Minister of Industry.

- More than 30 people are dead with 150 more injured after a bomb exploded inside a mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan on Monday. The blast came during afternoon prayers, and it’s believed to have been carried out by a suicide bomber. Officials said no group has yet to come forward to claim responsibility. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and travelled to Peshawar to be briefed on the bombing and to meet with victims.
- Finland announced on Monday that it remains committed to joining NATO together with Sweden despite ongoing threats from Turkey to block the latter’s admission. Turkey continued to demand Sweden extradite 120 Kurds who are allegedly members of the Kurdistan Workers Party or involved in the 2016 attempted coup. NATO requires all 30 of its members to approve countries wanting to join the alliance. Besides Turkey, Hungary has yet to decide whether it will nix the Nordic countries’ applications.
