Global Markets: Israeli raid kills 10 Palestinians

WINNIPEG, Feb. 22 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

 

  • An Israeli raid on the West Bank city of Nablus left at least 10 Palestinians dead and wounded 102 more, according to Palestinian officials. The Israeli army provided little explanation for the midday raid, but frequently conducts such operations in an effort to crackdown on militant groups.

 

  • A massive winter storm was expected to wreck havoc across a large swath of the northern United States this week, with blizzard conditions shutting down highways. Many schools and government offices were already closed in the Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin on Wednesday, with warnings against travel as the storm works its way east.

  • New home prices in Canada dipped by 0.2 per cent in January compared to the previous month, according to a report from Statistics Canada. The cooling housing index saw prices down or unchanged in 25 of the census metropolitan areas. On an annual basis, new home prices were up by 2.7 per cent in January 2023 compared to January 2022. That’s well below the annual rate of 11.8 per cent a year ago.
