WINNIPEG, March 27 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

 

  • Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is scheduled to introduce her next budget on Tuesday. A report said that the federal Liberal government will include a ‘grocery rebate’ that will go to approximately 11 million households and will cost more than C$2 billion. As well, there’s to be a hike in the amount a student can withdraw from their Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) for their post-secondary education. Another measure is reported to be a clean tech manufacturing tax credit equal to 30 per cent of a company’s capital investment costs.

  • After an arbitration case ruled on Saturday that Iraq’s consent is required for Kurdistan to export its oil through Turkey, Kurdistan brought its outbound movements to halt on Monday. The semi-autonomous region of Iraq is estimated to supply 0.5 per cent of the world’s crude oil exports, the equivalent of 450,000 barrels per day. The global situation has been further compounded by China’s growing demand for crude and Russia stating it will trim its production.

 

  • Pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his right-wing coalition government ramped up on Monday, with organized labour throwing its support behind the protests against the government’s proposed judicial overhaul. Also universities, restaurants and retail stores were closed, along with transportation at a halt. As well, a dozen mayors throughout the country started a hunger strike and Israeli President Isaac Herzog again urged the government to stop its judicial reforms.

 

  • A tornado lasting more than an hour ripped through Mississippi killing at least 25 people on the weekend. The twister, estimated to be an EF-4 tornado, careened through the towns of Rolling Fork and Black Hawk during the night, which added to the mayhem.
