WINNIPEG – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is visiting New York City today for the Global Citizen NOW summit, a two-day meeting of celebrities, activists and lawmakers discussing the most pressing challenges affecting the planet. Trudeau is expected to champion women’s rights at the event. Later, he will speak to the Council of Foreign Relations about Canada/United States relations, critical minerals and Canada’s economic outlook.

– French company TotalEnergies announced today it has signed a deal to sell its Canadian operations to Suncor Energy Inc. for up to C$6.1 billion. Suncor will pay C$5.5 billion in cash as well as much as C$600 million more depending on benchmark crude oil prices. The agreement will add 135,000 barrels per day of net bitumen production capacity and 2.1 billion barrels of reserves.
