Global Markets: Israeli/Palestine air attacks

  • Israeli air attacks on the Gaza Strip have killed at least 17 people over the past two days, with Palestinians countering by firing more than 100 rockets towards southern Israel. Hamas has denied any involvement in the latest round of fighting.

 

  • United States Republican representative George Santos was charged with fraud, money laundering and theft of public funds by the country’s Justice Department and taken into custody on Wednesday. Santos has faced calls for his resignation due to numerous false claims about his personal and professional history.

 

  • The U.S. annual rate of inflation slowed to 4.9 per cent in April, after hitting 5.0 per cent the previous month. The country’s annual consumer price index had hit a high of 9.1 per cent in June 2022. The CPI was up by 0.4 per cent on a monthly basis, which compares with the 0.1 per cent increase reported in March.
