WINNIPEG, Oct. 2 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

 

  • Canada marked the third National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30, recognizing the legacy of residential schools, with federally regulated businesses across the country closed Monday. Workers in British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon and Prince Edward Island also have the day off. The day also known as Orange Shirt Day is a holiday for provincial employees in Manitoba and Nova Scotia.

  • The United States government passed a last-minute temporary funding bill over the weekend, preventing a shutdown until mid-November. The bill includes federal disaster assistance but excludes aid to Ukraine that had been opposed by many Republican lawmakers.

 

  • Former U.S. President Donald Trump arrived at a New York courtroom on Monday where he and the Trump Organization are facing fraud charges. The civil case is seeking at least US$250 million in damages against Trump and his business over accusations of inflating the value of assets in order to secure better loan and insurance rates.
