- India has requested that Canada remove 41 of its 62 diplomats in the country by Oct. 10, according to reports. Tensions between the two countries have been heightened since Canada accused India of being involved with the assassination of Sikh independence activist and Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India denies the allegations.
- Canadian Members of Parliament will vote for a new Speaker of the House of Commons on Tuesday. Former speaker Anthony Rota stepped down last week amid a controversy that saw a Ukrainian veteran who fought with a Nazi regiment honoured in the House of Commons. Bloc Québécois MP Louis Plamondon is acting as interim speaker and will oversee the election.
- A 14-year-old suspect is in custody in Thailand after a shooting in a Bangkok shopping centre that saw one person killed and at least six more wounded. Early reports had said that three people were dead.
