Global Markets: NDP wins majority in Manitoba

WINNIPEG, Oct. 4 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

 

  • Manitoba’s New Democratic Party (NDP) won a majority government in Tuesday’s provincial election, defeating the incumbent Progressive Conservatives (PC). With the victory, NDP leader Wab Kinew becomes the first First Nations premier of a Canadian province. Outgoing premier Heather Stefanson barely held onto her own seat and stepped down as leader of the PC party.

 

  • Republican Kevin McCarthy has been removed from his position as speaker in the United States House of Representatives after a move by far-right members of his own party. McCarthy only held the position for nine months and is now the first speaker in history to be ousted from office.

 

  • An Italian bus carrying tourists crashed off an overpass bridge near Venice, killing at least 21 people and injuring 18 more according to reports.
