  • Jobs growth in the United States beat expectations in September, with nonfarm payrolls in the country up by 336,000, according to the latest Labor Department report, with the unemployment rate steady at 3.8 per cent. That was well above the upwardly revised 227,000 jobs added the previous month, and exceeding the 100,000 new jobs per month needed to keep up with growth in the working-age population. The solid jobs data was seen raising the possibility that the U.S. Federal Reserve will hike interest rates one more time before the end of the year.
