Global Markets: Canada’s inflation slows in September

WINNIPEG – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Statistics Canada (StatCan) reported today that the country’s annual inflation rate was 3.8 per cent in September, lower than economists’ expectations and 0.2 points lower than what it was in August. Excluding gasoline, the inflation rate would have been 3.7 per cent, down 0.4 of a point. Nevertheless, gasoline prices dropped 1.3 per cent in September. Grocery prices increased at an annual rate of 5.8 per cent, down from 11 per cent one year ago. The cost-of-living saw a “broad-based” deceleration of 0.1 per cent in September on a monthly basis.

The victims were to attend a men’s international soccer match between Belgium and Sweden, which was later suspended at halftime. Police will investigate how the alleged perpetrator, who was on police files and was sought for deportation, was able to obtain a military weapon.
