– On the final day of their original temporary ceasefire agreement, Israel and Hamas are seeking an extension on Monday. A fourth exchange of hostages held by Hamas and Palestinian prisoners was expected to take place today. Israel said it would extend the ceasefire for every 10 additional hostages freed. Two Egyptian officials said both sides are in talks to extend the ceasefire by four more days, but violence and Israeli military raids in the occupied West Bank have thrown a wrench in negotiations.

– United States federal agents arrested a suspect on Sunday in the shooting of three young men of Palestinian descent in Burlington, Vt. on Saturday. Jason J. Eaton, 48, was arrested while conducting a search of the shooting area. He will be arraigned on Monday. Of the three men who were injured, all of them were 20 years old, two of them were U.S. citizens and a third was a legal resident.
– Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and her United Conservative Party government will use its controversial Sovereignty Act on Monday to protect Alberta power companies from new federal clean electricity regulations. It would be the first time the government would use the legislation, designed as a tool against encroachment from the federal government, since it was passed last December. Smith claims that Ottawa’s plans to cut energy grid carbon emissions are unconstitutional.
