Glacier FarmMedia MarketsFarm – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

  • Typhoon Yagi hit Vietnam over the weekend, causing extensive damage and killing at least 21 people. The storm was the largest in Asia this year, and the most powerful to make landfall on Vietnam in decades. It has since been downgraded, but flooding continued to cause problems on Monday.

  • Germany will impose temporary controls on all land borders to fight irregular migration and protect the country from Islamic extremism. The move comes amid mounting public concerns after a deadly knife attack by a Syrian asylum seeker last month. Recent wins by the anti-immigration AfD Party at the state level were also seen contributing to the move towards stricter border restrictions.

  • Ukraine reportedly shot down six of eight Russian-launched drones during an overnight attack, with only minimal damage reported. Two out of three Russian missiles were also intercepted.
