- Canada’s Consumer Price Index was up by 2.0 per cent on an annual basis in October, up from the 1.6 per cent year-on-year inflation in September, reported Statistics Canada. Gasoline prices were down by 4.0 per cent in October after dropping 10.7 per cent the previous month.
- Damage to two data cables running under the Baltic Sea was likely caused by sabotage, according to Germany’s defence minister. The C-Lion1 cable between Finland and Germany that was severed Monday is the main data line between the Nordic country and mainland Europe. A cable linking Lithuania and Sweden was also damaged.
- Russian President Vladimir Putin formerly lowered the threshold for the country’s use of nuclear weapons on Tuesday, in response to Ukraine’s new use of longer-range missiles made by the United States. Putin’s new directive would allow for a nuclear response to a conventional attack by any nation supported by a nuclear power. Ukraine has reportedly fired six U.S. ATACMS missiles into Russia’s Bryansk region.
