Global Markets: Biden pardons son

  • United States President Joe Biden has pardoned his son, Hunter, going back on previous promises that he would not use the powers of the presidency to benefit his family. Hunter Biden was facing possible prison sentences after being convicted for a federal gun felony and tax offenses. The pardon comes less than two months from Donald Trump taking office.

 

  • Heavy snow in Ontario’s cottage country closed highways and left many without power. Some regions saw over a metre of snow, and the town of Gravenhurst declared a state of emergency.

 

  • Canada Post has presented the union representing 55,000 striking workers with a framework to reach a negotiated settlement on Sunday. The framework is said to include proposals to bring greater flexibility to the Canada Post delivery model, while also showing movement on “other key issues.”
