- United States President Joe Biden will lift Cuba’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, the White House announced Tuesday. The deal was facilitated by the Catholic Church and will see “many dozens” of political prisoners on the island nation freed before the end of the Biden administration on Jan. 20. The U.S. would also ease some of the economic pressures on Cuba.

- Impeached South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol was detained by law enforcement on Wednesday and sent to a detention centre near Seoul. He faces a possible prison term over potential rebellion charges after imposing martial law in December. Yoon maintains his actions were done in accordance with the law, but said he complied with authorities to prevent violence.
- Canadian manufacturing sales increased 0.8 per cent in November to C$71.5 billion on the back of higher production of aerospace products and parts, along with sales petroleum and coal products, reported Statistics Canada. Wholesale trade during the month (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain) fell 0.2 per cent to C$83.7 billion in November.
