Condolences to Jim McBride’s loved ones on his passing

It is with great sadness that we announce that Jim McBride of Goldenview Farms passed away at the age of 94 years on January 19, 2025. McBride with his wife Ruth started their Limousin herd, McBride Limousin, while living in Winnipeg, Man., in 1970.
McBride was a founding member of the Manitoba Limousin Association and was also a founder/member of the Canadian Limousin Association and the North American Limousin Foundation. In 1974 he and Ruth moved to Calgary, Alta., and established Goldenview Farms at High River, Alta.
Goldenview was known far and wide in North America and together with Nordic Farms of Campbellville, Ont., shared the first Limousin Leader of the Year award in 1975. McBride was also chairman of the successful 1982 Limousin World Congress held in Calgary. Over the years Goldenview had won nearly every honour in the major shows across Canada, culminating in the sale of a quarter interest of one cow, Pertinent, for $250,000. McBride also imported the highly sought-after bull, Harvest Olympus. Jim and Ruth were pre- sented the Award of Distinction in 1996.

Goldenview Farms dispersed on August 13, 1988. Their highly sought-after Full French Limousin herd of 104.75 lots grossed $998,350 for an average of $9,530. Cattle sold to six provinces, 15 states and Australia.
McBride was known as an astute businessman and a great promoter of the Limousin breed. He was predeceased by his wife and partner, Ruth, in 2020 and his grandson, Patrick, in 2024. He is survived by his daughter, Patti McBride.
Condolences to Lee Brown’s loved ones on his passing

Well-known Angus breeder Lee Brown of LLB Angus at Erskine, Alta., passed away in an accident on January 13, 2025.
Brown was born February 8, 1956, in Stettler, the second child of Jim and Jean Brown. He attended Erskine School and later high school in Stettler. He was an astute cattleman and hardworking farmer. He lived in his great-grandmother Isabella Brown’s house on her 1904 homestead his entire life.
He leaves to mourn his loving family: wife Laura and daughters Trish (Tim) Henderson, Jackie (Kerry) Freeman and special sidekick Katherine Heath. Brown
was especially proud of his four grandchildren: Luke and Wynne Henderson and Elliot and Abby Freeman. He is also survived by beloved sisters Marjorie (Bob) Blacklock and Lynne Brown, brother Neil (Deneen) Brown, Aunts Gladys (Toots) Anderson, Alice Norris, Audrey (Wally) Ward, sister-in-law Ann (Les) Muhlbach, brother-in-law Bill (Brenda) Turville and Laura’s uncle Doug Johnston, along with
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Brown was predeceased by his parents and Laura’s parents, Harlen and Lois Turville. Rev. Kwon, Erskine United Church, officiated the memorial service held on January 23, 2025, at the Stettler Community Hall with organist Evelyn Strandquist leading the music. The eulogy was given by daughters Trish and Jackie, sister Lynne and long-time friend Steve Dorran.
