  • United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin may meet as early as next week, as Trump continues to push for an end to Russia’s three-year war in Ukraine.

 

  • The possibility of a meeting between the two leaders put some pressure on crude oil markets, that had been supported this week by the increasing U.S. trade measures against countries buying Russian oil. Meanwhile, a drawdown in U.S. crude oil stockpiles provided support, keeping energy markets relatively steady overall.

  • Over half of the calories consumed in the United States comes from ultra-processed foods, according to a new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Using data collected from August 2021 through August 2023, kids and teenagers consumed 62 per cent of their calories from ultra processed foods, while adults came in at 53 per cent. The data was released amid mounting concerns over such foods from Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy.

 

  • Soybean, corn and wheat futures in Chicago were posting small gains Thursday morning, recovering off nearby lows as solid weekly export demand provided some support.
