His death was described as a “political assassination” by Utah Governor Spencer Cox, and U.S. President Donald Trump vowed his administration would those responsible for the shooting. Canadian politicians also responded, with Prime Minister Mark Carney saying in a statement that “there is no justification for political violence and every act of it threatens democracy.”
