Four Nova Scotia agri-food companies will share $750,000 in funding to upgrade or add on to their existing plants and equipment.
The provincial government announced this round of funding Thursday from its Strategic Infrastructure Investment Fund, worth $6 million over four years starting this year.
“These projects were chosen for their strong business plans and benefits for the industry as a whole,” said provincial Ag Minister Brooke Taylor in a release. The recipients include:
- Van Meekeren Farms of Kentville, to upgrade its apple processing equipment and expand its warehouse;
- Scotian Gold Co-operative, an Annapolis Valley apple growers’ co-op, to improve its processing technology and help modernize its plant;
- West Nova Agro Commodities, a farmer-owned grain handling company at Lawrencetown, to set up an organic grains processing facility; and
- Knoydart Farms, to upgrade equipment to process organic milk into specialty cheese.
