Federal approval has been granted for the Canadian Wheat Board to raise its 2007-08 initial payments for wheat, durum and designated barley effective Feb. 21.
Farmers who delivered wheat, durum and designated barley to the CWB between Aug. 1, 2007 and Feb. 20, 2008 will get an adjustment payment for the increased initials, the board announced on Friday.
The increases for wheat will range from $41.60 per tonne (for many wheat grades and protein levels) to $51.60 per tonne (for Nos. 1 and 2 Canada Western Soft White Spring). For milling durum, the increases will range from $80.50 per tonne (for No. 1 Canada Western Amber Durum, 15.5 per cent) to $96.50 per tonne (for No. 4 CWAD).

Increases per tonne for designated barley, meanwhile, will be $10 for all two-row grades and $13 for all six-row grades.
The federal government guarantees CWB initial payments and thus is required by law to approve the level at which those payments are set, as well as any increases.
The adjustment payments will be mailed by March 7 or direct-deposited on March 4. Farmers who wish to defer payments have until Feb. 27 to inform the CWB.
