The University of Prince Edward Island has named Donald Reynolds, a U.S. professor and veterinarian, as dean of the Atlantic Veterinary College.
Reynolds, whose appointment was announced Thursday, will officially take the job for a six-year term starting in August. He replaces Timothy Ogilvie, who steps down from the role after two terms.
Reynolds is now associate dean of research and graduate studies at Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He is also associate director of its Veterinary Medical Research Institute, assistant director of its Agricultural Experiment Station and a professor of veterinary microbiology and preventive medicine.

“As one of only 33 deans of veterinary medicine in North America, Dr. Reynolds is a member of a distinct group whose expertise and vision play a key role in veterinary medicine education, the development of this much-respected profession and its role in relation to public health, food safety, and animal health and welfare,” UPEI president Wade MacLauchlan said in a release Thursday.
Reynolds is originally from Ohio and received his B.Sc., DVM and Ph.D. at Ohio State. His previous research interests have included avian medicine and food safety, UPEI said in its release.
