WINNIPEG, May 11 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.
– US jobless claims in the week ending May 6 fell 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 236,000, the lowest point since 1988.
The data also marked the 114th consecutive week that claims have been below 300,000.
– Canada’s New Housing Price Index (NHPI) rose 0.2 per cent in March compared with the previous month. Higher new house prices in Vancouver and Toronto led the gain, Statistics Canada said in a report on Thursday.
Those advances were largely in line with analyst expectations.
