Global markets: UK Conservatives lose majority

WINNIPEG, June 9 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.

– The Conservative party won the 2017 UK general election, but sacrificed the parliamentary majority leader Theresa May had previously held.

The Labour party gained 31 seats, which introduced a sense of uncertainty, pressuring the sterling, market watchers said on Friday.

– Canada’s labour market was stronger in May, according to data from Statistics Canada on Friday, which buoyed the Canadian dollar.

There were 77,000 full-time positions added last month, but when accounting for declines in other categories that figure is closer to 54,400.
