Winnipeg, October 5 (CNS) – The North Dakota dry bean
harvest is on schedule with years past at approximately 71 per
cent combined as of Monday. However the dry bean harvest in
Minnesota is ahead of schedule.
In Australia, nine new extension groups are being set up to
teach producers about growing chickpeas and lentils. The goal of
the project, which runs until March, 2020, is to increase the
knowledge of farmers in non-traditional pulse growing areas. The
groups will have discussions on pulse production, management and
marketing.
The USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture is
distributing US$48-million for speciality crops research in the
new fiscal year. The money is from the Speciality Crop Research
Initiative in the 2014 FarmBill.
While markets for most pulse crops held steady overnight in
Western Canada, pinto beans softened slightly over the week to
decrease a cent to 27 cents per pound.
