Pulse Report: India closer to self-sufficiency in pulses

Winnipeg, Nov. 17 (CNS) – India is closer to reaching its
goal of self-sufficiency for production, according to UN
Agriculture Secretary SK Pattanayak. For the second year in a
row India has produced 22 million tonnes of pulses. According to
Pattanayak when pulses jumped from around 18 million to 22.6
million last year there was worry it was a one-off thing, but by
reaching 22 million again this year it shows India is closer to
reaching self-sufficiency.
Turkey has sent a military cargo plan to help earthquake
victims in northern Iraq, according to Anadolu Agency. The cargo
plane includes trucks loaded with 150 tents, more than 1,000
blankets as well as food, including five tonnes of rice, 1,500
liters of oil, nearly 10,000 cans of fish and five tonnes of
lentils.
Peas have continued their price drop this week, according to
Prairie Ag Hotwire. Green peas this week dropped 25 cents this
week to $8.25 per bushel; yellow peas dropped 50 cents this week
to $6.50 per bushel.
