Winnipeg – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian
and world feed grains markets on Friday, January 15.
– CBOT corn futures ended three to five cents higher on Friday as favourable export news and investor short-covering supported prices. The most-active March contract was US$3.63 per bushel.
– According to the USDA, wheat inspections were up 23 percent from the three-year average for the week ending January 7.
– South Dakota’s 2016/17 winter wheat crop is pegged at 1.1 million acres which is down significantly from the previous crop of 1.4 million acres.

– The National Statistics Committee of Belarus pegged the country’s grain harvest in 2015 at 8.7 million tonnes, which is 9.5 percent less than in 2014.
– Malt consumption in Australia is booming as the popularity of craft beer increases, according to a report. According to the country’s Craft Beer Industry Association, demand for malt is at an all-time high, fueled by Australia’s 310 breweries.
– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of
Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$205 to C$214 per tonne
area as of January 8, according to provincial reports.
Feed wheat prices were in the C$220 to C$232 range. Both sets of prices are down a few dollars from the previous reporting period of December 18.
