WINNIPEG, April 14 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on April 14.
– CBOT corn futures held relatively steady on Thursday, with the May contract up half a cent at US$3.74 per bushel.
– The United States Department of Agriculture reported weekly US corn export sales of 1.1 million tonnes, which was at the high end of trade guesses.
– Scientists with Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) have developed the world’s first ‘gluten-free’ barley, according to reports. The Kebari variety was developed by traditional cross-breeding methods, and is not genetically modified.

– Brazil’s corn crop is forecast at 81.2 million tonnes by Agr Brasil, which was down by 3.9 million tonnes from an earlier estimate and below the 84.0 million tonnes currently forecast by the USDA.
– The end of China’s guaranteed corn subsidy program will see corn production in the country fall by 6.6 million tonnes, hitting 218 million, according to a report from the USDA’s China bureau.
– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$208 to C$215 per tonne area as of April 8, which was steady on the week, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices were in the C$232 to C$237 range, which was down by about three dollars on the top end.
