Feed Grains: Brazil to export corn seed and fodder to EU

WINNIPEG, Apr. 20 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Wednesday, April 20.

– CBOT corn futures finished 10.2500 cents higher on Wednesday, with the July contract at US$3.9975 per bushel. Excessively dry weather in Brazil continued to stress the corn crop, which was supportive. The Brazilian government also announced it would not tax imports of corn which was welcome news to US exporters.

– North Dakota received some much-needed precipitation over the weekend as between 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain fell in most regions. So far, 14 percent of the spring wheat crop has been planted, 10 percent of the barley and 1 percent of the corn, according to the USDA.

– The European Union has approved additional imports, including oats and ryegrass, from Brazil. As part of the deal, EU countries will be sending corn seed, oat and ryegrass to the South American country where it can be grown in abundance and then later exported back to be used as fodder and green cover.

– According to the USDA, Poland’s grain production for the 2016/17 season is expected to rise by 6 percent to 29.5 million tonnes.

– Warm weather is being credited with an expected bump in Russian wheat production. According to the Agriculture Market Studies office in Moscow, the country will harvest 62.5 million tonnes in 2016, the highest total in eight years.

– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$210 to C$215 per tonne range as of April 15, which was up C$1 to $2 as the week before, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices were in the C$230 to C$240 range, which saw both the top end and bottom end expand from the previous week.
