Feed Grains: Egypt tries to coax more wheat out of its farmers

WINNIPEG, May. 30 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Monday, May 30.

– Russia exported 281,500 tonnes of grain from May 23 to 29, according to APK-Inform. That compares to 195,700 the week before.

– Egypt is pressing forward with plans to buy wheat from its own farmers at prices higher than the global average. The country is locked in a deep import/export deficit with just 9 million tonnes grown domestically and a consumption rate of 18 million tonnes per year.

– Officials with the Kazakhstan government say this year’s target for grain export has mostly been met. The country exported 7.6 million tonnes of grain between July 1, 2015 to May 26, 2016, according to Blackseagrain.net.

– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$212 to C$215 per tonne range as of May 27, which was down slightly from the week before, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices were in the C$235 to C$240 range, which were slightly firmer than the week before.

– In 2015/16, Ukraine increased wheat shipments to Europe by almost a third, compared to the previous year, according to UKrAgroConsult.
