WINNIPEG, May 31 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Tuesday, May 31.
– Official with the Kansas Grain and Feed Association are concerned about storage of this year’s fall crops, according to an article by the Associated Press. While the industry has built numerous storage facilities in recent years, stored wheat stocks were up 40 percent in March from a year ago, 53 percent for sorghum and 21 percent for corn, according to numbers from the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

– The wheat harvest has begun in Oklahoma with early estimates calling for a massive crop. According to the Oklahoma Grain and Feed Association, the crop will be 130 million bushels which compares to the 2015 total of 99 million bushels.
– Reports out of Brazil suggest there is a lot of uncertainty over how big this year’s second corn crop will be. Excessively dry weather in key regions has left corn prices quite high and buyers reluctant to accept large orders. Poultry and pork producers are under particular pressure as the high price of fodder corn is discouraging large-scale production.
– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$212 to C$215 per tonne range as of May 27, which was down slightly from the week before, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices were in the C$235 to C$240 range, which were slightly firmer than the week before.
– According to the Bangkok Post, 94,000 tonnes of corn, that was initially put in storage in 2008/2009 may have to be incinerated to free up storage space. Approval is currently being sought to get rid of the rotten maize, which is said to be in wretched condition. Before that happens however, officials may see if it can be used for power generation as it is unfit for any livestock.
