Feed Grains: Rain causing problems for wheat in northern US

WINNIPEG, September 21 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Wednesday, September 21.

– CBOT corn futures finished half a cent lower on Wednesday, due to harvest pressure.

– Rain continues to be a thorn in the side of wheat farmers in Montana and North Dakota who haven’t finished harvesting their spring wheat. Quality problems including cases of vomitoxin are becoming more common due to the wet conditions. A significant portion of the later-harvested grain is likely destined for the feed market.

– According to UKagroconsult, questions over corn export duties in Argentina are making it difficult to estimate the acreage for 2016/17. The government swept to power with promises to slash export taxes on soybeans and corn. However, recent rumours indicate it will likely keep the export rate for soybeans intact at 30 percent, raising questions over the future of corn duties.

– Russia has harvested 72 million tonnes of wheat as of September 19, according to a report from grainboard.ru.

– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of
Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$160 to C$165 per tonne
range as of September 16, which was down by as much as C$5
per tonne from the previous week. Feed wheat prices posted
similar losses, to range from C$178 to C$190 in Lethbridge.
